Re: [Networker] Using tape libraries not listed in Legato's compatibility guide?

Thanks guys. And yes, as several people have pointed out, I missed the
boat on this one. It was listed right there in the compatibility guide
under ADIC. I forgot that Quantum acquired ADIC; I think that's been in
the last 6 months.
Now, I feel like exclaiming that word the Homer Simpson says all the
time. :-P

George, Isn't the Quantum I500 now a rebranded ADIC I500? Or is it
not? I don't know.
Is the ADIC listed in compatibility guide?

Subject: [Networker] Using tape libraries not listed in Legato's
compatibility guide?
Hi,
How important is it that a tape library be listed in Legato's
hardware compatibility guide?
I was looking at a Quantum I500 series library with LTO-3, but it's
not listed in this document, but, of course, LTO-3 is largely
supported. Obviously, Legato can't test everything, but it is
comforting to know you have something that they
have officially sanctioned. Thing is, though, that a lot of the
libraries listed are now EOL. Seems a lot of newer stuff is out there
now but may not be on the list.
I like the concept of the stackable libraries since they allow you to
add on and are rack mountable, but the one thing that can burn you is
that if the manufacturer EOLs the product - never mind the fact that
they may support it for several more years after that - you can't buy
another chassis. And because you can't purchase another chassis, you
can't add any more drives unless your existing chassis can take more.
Seems many of the smaller ones will only take 2 drives each, so
there's a good chance you'll already be maxed out, so I like the I500
since you add in 9U increments; it scales to larger increments, so if
we get the base chassis (2 drives, 36 slots), we can also buy a 9U
add-on that can support another 4 drives and up to 92 more slots. So,
if the product is later EOL, we can still add 4 more drives. The
Quantum PX502 and some of the other models only allow 2 drives max
per chassis, so you'd have to buy a lot of empty chassis upfront to
be be covered.
