That is all great info, Allan. We too have had the issue with double
backups along with the issues I have discussed. I'm greatful for that
info.

Hi Kevin

First your 'Server Specific Info' question.

With the 7.2.x client on Netware, Server Specific Inis not backed up
during a scheduled save any longer.
Only manual backups are supported.
See 4-44 in the EMC Legato Networker ClientPak Release 7.2.1 Admin
guide.

We're running Netware6.5 sp5 here with Networker client 7.2.1 and after
a few problems now seem to be getting stable backups.
The main problems we were having were...
o Backups looping. ie the backup would complete successfully, then
immediately start again. This was fixed with the nwlib6h patch from
Novell. It is still beta (I think) but we didn't really have an option.
We couldn't back rev for some other reason. Anyhow, it's cured that
problem and doesn't seem to have caused any others (for us!)
o Occasionally we have one server that abends (SAVE.NLM) with a CPU Hog
detected. The fix for this (suggested by EMC) is another beta patch
winsock6j.exe but we've heard stories of this causing other problems, so
we're putting up with this issue until a kosher fix comes out. It
varies, but it's around once a month it abends.
I did try it on a test server and didn;t have any issues, but I'm wary
because a) we weren't having any problems on that server anyway, and b)
it's a test server and they always work with whatever you install on
them anyway don't they ;-)

Hope this helps... Allan.

Hi everyone,

We are having some strange issues with backups of Novell Netware
servers. We are running NetWare because we use Groupwise Mail. Most
of
the time, these servers return messages that the backups did not
complete when they actually have. Even when the backups do complete,
they are set to backup "all", but sometimes only backup some of the
volumes and not all. This is also random to the point where a daily
backup may work and backup all volumes, but the weekly will only
backup
one volume (SYS or MAIL), but not both.

We are running Netware 5.1 on most servers, but have begun a migration
to NetWare 6.5 on new servers. NetWare 6.5 has the advantage of
seeing
the savesets as a full size, where NetWare 5.1 only sees savesets as 2
gigs before it starts another save set. The one server we have
migrated
to NetWare 6.5 is consistently backing up with the "all" setting with
no
errors, but does not backup Server Specific Info for some reason.

I don't see anything about this on EMC site or on searches. Has
anyone
else had to deal with NetWare issues with false messages about
Networker
backups not completing and/or not getting all the volumes to backup
consistently? We are running Networker 7.2.1.
