I did a quick check of my index directory and don't see such file either. 
We run 7.2.1 on solaris
and back up a celerra also.  Some specifics on the client config in 
networker that you can
compare to ours

Application information:
        HIST=y
        UPDATE=y
        DIRECT=y
        OPTIONS=NT
        EXTRACT_ACL=y

backup command: nsrndmp_save -T tar
                (I've also tested with -T dump and both seem to work fine)
