[Networker] bacula vs networker
2006-10-05 18:02:30
Hi,
I 've been a (relatively) happy user of networker for 6 years. Recently
I was tasked to evaluate the possibility of replacing our networker
software with the Bacula distribution. The reasons which lead to this
outcome are:
1)We are havily using FreeBSD, which is almost entirely unsupported by
networker.
2)The local EMC representative charges way too much for only a limited set of
enabled features.
3)7.3 probably is having childhood difficulties if half of the posts on this
list
are half as accurate.
4)We are not using tape libraries and robots, so we not too dependent on
networker being able to talk to these kinds of devices.
Has anyone had any experience with Bacula? Does it stand a chance against
networker?
Has anyone made a successful transistion to Bacula?
I know, I should be asking this question on the Bacula mailing lists, but I
think
that this list is unique in the way that it has many many fellow professionals
that carry
out day by day a critical mission, so they tend to stick to what really works
good
regardless of it being open source or free or whatever. I would hate to leave
networker
and go to a solution that works half of the time.
Sorry for the long message,
Best Regards to everyone,
Athanasios
