What drives are you using ?
Are you running with the latest/recommended firmware of the drives ?
What brand are the cartridges ?
What library are you using ?
Do you see any kernel errors ?
I usually put the following line into my /etc/syslog.conf so I have all
kernel related issues in a single file:
kern.debug /var/adm/kernel
(and don't forget to kill -HUP the syslogd).
Can you send the output of the inquire command ?
