Hello,

        We run a centralized backup service using Networker v 7.3 (actually
Sun's EBS)for approximately 30 clients over IP and another half dozen
dedicated storage nodes over a SAN fabric. The backup server and the
majority of the clients are solaris boxes. We have a 273-slot StorageTek
L500 with four Ultrium LTO3 tape drives available for backup, and our
support channel at Sun have had us dedicate two of them to the backup server
itself to perform backups of regular IP-based clients, and the other two for
use by the remote dedicated storage nodes to backup their own data.

        We have experienced intermittent but persistent problems with the
dedicated storage nodes where one or more of the savestreams fail and retry,
and on occasion fail on retry, causing the savegroup to fail. The
characteristic error messages returned by the save command for each
savestream that fails are:

<storage.node.client>:<saveset.partition> save: Cannot open save session
with <networker.backup.server>

        and:

save: SYSTEM error: Dedicated storage node <storage.node.client> cannot save
remote data from client <networker.backup.server>

        The daemon.log file is verbose and ambiguous, but appears to show
that the symptoms occur when one dedicated storage node starts when earlier
storage node backups have not quite completed, the storage nodes scheduled
later being affected.

        Has anyone had similar experiences with Legato Networker, or even a
resolution? Thanks in advance.
