This schedule is already in place and implimented when I assumed the backup
admin role and continued on since. I never attempted to change it, but can you
please tell me if something is not right here or just keep the current
schedule. The retention period for our daily/weekly savesets is 12 weeks, mont
end savesets is 1 year and year end savesets is 5 years.

Friday - Full
Sat - 7
Sun - 6
Mon - 5
Tue - 4
Wed - 3
Wed - 2
Thu - 1

thanks,
Librado

That assumes that your full and your most recent each fit on one tape,
which may not be the case.

Of course, AFAIK (and I could very well be wrong), using

    f,8,7,6,5,4,3

for your backup schedule is exactly the same thing as using

    f,N,N,N,N,N,N

where N is any number 1-9. In other words, there's no reason why the
numbers need to get smaller -- they could all be "5" and the affect
should be the same thing.

Agreed.

Exactly.

I don't understand this last statement -- f,8,7,6,5 (or the equivalent
f,5,5,5,5) is not the same as f,i,i,i,i, since an incr backs up only
the files that have changed since the last backup of any level (not just
the last backup of a lower level).
