Which type of tapes are most popular to use?

I cannot decide to use LTO or DLT, which should I choose?

Popularity has nothing to do with it. Make the selection based on your budget and backup requirements.

We are using Sony S-AIT tapes here. We have been using that medium for about the past 1.5 years and it works out well for us. We spent a lot of time investigating this question and we decided on a Sony PetaSite tape library connected via fibre channel to a Sunfire v480 with Solaris 9. This is working out well for us. S-AIT is rated to hold up to 1.3TB per tape cartridge and the rated throughput is so high that I have never seen any of our 13 S-AIT tape drives at the rate they are capable of because we cannot push the data fast enough. In our environment, we usually average about 800-900GB per cartridge.
