Olaf,

There is one listing in for xdr checksum in the EMC knowledge based that
deals with the error on IRIX client (below). You probably, but didn't
mention, are not running an IRIX client. The error alludes to the problem
being on the client end ..but, has asdf hdr in it I realize.

It could be a problem with the tape but I find it strange that your reading
18GB but not one file is written...how many files are expected and what is
the size of each ? I've seen errors where the desitination cannot accept
files bigger than 2GB... of course, your not getting even 2GB. Where
exactly is the 18GB going...

Support Note Information

Subject: Recovery fails on IRIX client

Note: Fact: IRIX 6.4
Fact: IRIX 6.5
Fact: NetWorker for UNIX 5.x
Symptom: File based or saveset recovery fails on IRIX client
Symptom: Error: 'recover: error decoding ASDF section'
Symptom: Error: 'recover: xdr asdf hdr failed'
Symptom: Error: 'recover: bad save stream'
Symptom: Error: 'recover: Unable to read checksum from save stream'
Symptom: Error: 'recover: error recovering <file_name>'
Symptom: Error: 'recover: exit readsavestream()'
Symptom: Error: 'recover: recover failed: Error receiving files from NSR
server <networker_server_name>'
Cause: OS parameter "mmap_async_write" has been enabled.
Fix: An OS parameter is the root of this problem. disabling
the "mmap_async_write" parameter using "systune" utility fixes this
problem. Run "systune" from the command line, select "mmap_async_write" and
change the value to disabled.
