running v7.2.x server with v6.x clients? Are there any problems?
My NetWorker server runs version 7.2.1 on Solaris 9 with a mix of
around 250 clients of various and sundry operating systems. I have
not encountered any compatibility issues with older NetWorker
clients. Most of the clients in my data zone are also running 7.2.1.
I do have a handful of older 6.x clients and one 5.5.1 client. Just
out of curiosity, I logged onto the Tru64 Unix server where that
5.5.1 client lives and I tried to recover a directory. The recover
process worked fine. A diff between the recovered directory and the
original directory showed no differences. This directory was fairly
small, just a few MB of flies because that server is nearly out of
disk space. In fact, just as i finished doing that test recovery, the
person who uses that old server walked into my office and told me
he's very close to decommissioning it.
