I'm a Windows Networker admin, with a Win background. Networker is by no
means compliant with Windows standards, and requires a fair bit of
stretch at the command-line and in TCP/IP as well. Either way, you'll
recognize that it was ported from the ??ix world to the Win. When it
works, it's fine, but when it breaks, I get headaches that generally
last for days. Some of it is quite arcane.

Subject: backup server OS - Windows or Linux?

We are continuing to look at a new backup solution. We are narrowing in
on a Spectralogic T120, but are still possibly considering the ADIC
i500. A question has come up as to the generally better-performing
backup server OS: Windows or Linux? If the performance gain is hardly
measurable, then our experience is on the Windows side, and the skill
level is higher there. (This question left vague to protect the
innocent...)

Thanx for any input
