Hello:

I am totally a newbie for networker. I have did a good reading of the
documentation, and there are some questions which were not answered.

1. How do make the tapes re-usable( I did some reading on "Browse and
Retention Policy" chapter, and it said that unless the tapes reach time set
on browse and retention policy, tapes wouldnt be re-usable.

2. Once the time on Browse and Retention expires, how do we make the tapes
re-usable.

If you are attempting to learn NetWorker in a production environment without supervision from someone who's experienced with it, you may experience some grief the next time you have to engage in a DR situation for a failed server and all eyes in your organization are on you to get back much needed data. My recommendation to you is to get some good training BEFORE you experience a serious problem that requires comprehensive NetWorker knowledge, not after. Part of a successful NetWorker deployment includes planning how to do backups with reasonable data recovery goals in mind. I don't know if this is typical, but at my site, planning is an ongoing activity. Please let me know and I would be happy to refer you to the organization I use for NetWorker training.

As for the answer to your first question, a given tape cartridge will be marked as recyclable provided that all the save sets on that tape are marked as recyclable. All the save sets that depend on the save sets on that tape also marked as recyclable, and the tape is not marked for manual recycling. A save set gets marked as recyclable when it passes its retention policy. See pages 181-184 of the administrator's guide for information on this subject.

If you wish to manually mark a tape as recyclable, start the NetWorker administrator gui and (depending on version and platform), go into the volumes menu, find the tape in question, and then make it recyclable.
