The issue with the folder is rather alarming and disturbing. I haven't
noticed anything of the sort on my NetWare box, but then again... Is
just a small lab environment.
Have anybody of you guys tried to run a manual backup of this folders?
Just to see if it gets handled differently then?
</snip>

Hi
I had a look at this on one of our Netware servers (6.5 sp3) and did infact
find a directory showing as <RES> rather than <DIR>.
After some digging around it looked like a genuine 'corruption' on the Netware
side of things.
Looking at the details on the folder, it showed it had 'immediate compression'
enabled. We don't use compression here. It also showed the 'owner' as
unknown. I fixed that using Remote Manager.
I tried 'unsetting' this immediate compression flag also, but it just kept
coming back.

I did do a manual backup of the directory and it still showed as <RES>.

One comforting thing was that I could do a directed recover of the whole
directory. I checked that, and all the files were there, all trustees correct
AND the top level directory recovered showed correctly as <DIR> (interestingly
the 'Immediate compression' flag had also disappeared).
So, that sort of reinforces the fact that it was a Netware (NSS) corruption.

I've since restored this directory and it's now backing up fine and is
browsable.

Cheeers... Allan.

Hello,

Here's the case# 536939.
My Netware server is on NW v6 sp5 and I cannot suggest to my Network
buddies to upgrade or apply anymore patch to try in resolving this
problem, due to the frequency of abends we got since we upgraded to
v7.2. I just hope that nobody request a file restore in the 'Users'
folder during the weeks that it was backed up on this newer version.

regards,
Librado

Hi
Re this <RES> problem.
We have this problem on one folder on a volume too.
We're running Netware6.5 sp3 at the moment and Networker client 7.2
(with the latest jumbo patch applied).

Do you have an incident number / call log number or whatever with EMC on
this <RES> problem, as I'll be reporting this too and it should help if
I can quote the bug report.

Cheeers... Allan.

Good luck with your upgrade. We decided to back rev. to v4.22 because
since we upgraded to v7.2 our main data server and border servers became
unstable, almost abends every night when the backup starts or just
browsing files for restores. Also one thing the Legato Tech. support
cannot resolve is this big question:

one of our main folder 'Users' is successfully backed up as <DIR> in
v4.22, but when we upgraded to v7.2 and on the restore window it only
shows up as <RES> hence you cannot expand it and restores files. This is
a seriously important folder as this is where the users save their
network profiles and email archives.

According to Legato Tech. support, we have to get Novell involved on
this, but Novell itself I think is already de-supporting NetWare O/S
unless you have a plan to migrate to Novell OES.

Ryan,

Still having trouble with SP5? (I am mulling over plans to apply SP5
here)

In related news, did you see Novell has a new libc for the RPC errors:
