Weve been running 7.3 for a while now, with the main backup server
running solaris, and the storage node running SLES9 (linux). These
are the most serious bugs encountered so far:
* The new nsrauth system, based on GSSAPI is severely broken. It
easily breaks/times out, probably a deadlock problem. This creates
a partly hung state which gets worse and worse until networker is
restarted (new in 7.3 obviously)
* The cleaning uses left on the cleaning tape gets automatically
updated when performing an inventory or when restarting networker.
Previously, we had to run nsrjb -U to update the number of uses
left (new in 7.3)
* nsrlic crashes when run from CLI. We suspect its an old bug which
we have encountered before in the 7.1 series, where local NDMP
client licenses would cause the same problems. (new/reintroduced in
7.3)
* CDI enabled on drives will crash the HBA driver, at least if
youre runing the qla2xxx driver that is shippwed with SLES9 SP2 on
the x64
platform (discovered in 7.2.1 running 32-bit binaries, remains on
7.3 with networker x64 binaries)
Please contribute to this list if you have any additional findings/
bugs to report. As usual, it helps if more networker users reports
these and other bugs through their support channel, so that they
get fixed sooner or later.
Those first three items are a deal breaker for me. Based on what your
email, I am glad I decided to hold off on upgrading to 7.3.
Have you reported these issues through official channels to Legato?
I would really like to upgrade to NetWorker 7.3 so I can take
advantage of the feature where you can backup and recover NDMP to non-
NDMP devices. That feature was supposed to be available in 7.2.1
(which we're using now), but tests I did of that feature showed it to
be broken so I never utilized it in production. I heard from Legato
that it is fixed with 7.3. Can someone confirm that for me from real
world experience?
