Hello,
We may end up with similar enviroment as you, before you mention directive 
i was going to suggest that you spit up the client in 4 diffrent one, 
backup each on different schedule etc.
Other options:
Split up Mail dB on 2-3 different servers backup there.
Try using snapimage module.
Fist spit up notes data in 2-3 group each access by different server, then 
using powersnap or replication manager from EMC mount indivedual file 
systems that you spit up to storage node\nodes and backup from there.
Unfortunetly, combining all notes servers into one large file system was 
flawed so there needs to be clean up first.
