Well, the details may vary, but

1)You have to adjust the MTU on your switch. The 6500 probably supports jumbo 
payloads. Remember, on a subnet
the MTU is set to be the lowest of all. So, all the machines on the lan must 
have jumbo frames or it won't function
correctly. Likewise, to communicate using jumbo frames with ANY 
machine,wherever it might be, that machine MUST have jumbo frames too. 

2)You will have to fiddle with your cards settings for each server. Solaris is 
no exception to this.
