Generally, no.  The tape remains loaded unless the drive is needed for
something else.

The nsr man page in section 5 talks about the directive file format.
This information can be placed onto the client's local filesystem (by
using .nsr files), or by creating a directive on the server with the
same information.

Several sample directives are already on the system.  You can pick a
directive in the client configuration.
