Yes, the account used during the backups was missing from the security
profile on the stores.

Hello David,
The Exchange Module is trying to ask Active Directory about Exchange
Server details, using the LDAP protocol, and Active Directory is
responding with status 0x80005000, which translates to "An invalid ADSI
pathname was passed."
I had not seen this status before; a quick search for 80005000 and
0x80005000 in Microsoft's http://search.microsoft.com/ seems to indicate
that this is usually a user access problem within AD, or use of an
account that is not an Administrator in the domain, etc.
