I just started having a problem with one of our Networker servers when it's
trying to backup one of our Exchange servers. I have two clients define,
one for the Exchange 5.5 information stores, and one for the file on the
exchange server. They run at different times, with the file based backup
going first.

Up until last week, both backups ran fine. After last Friday, the Exchange
backup runs fine, but the file backup doesn't run. I can see the save
processes starting on the Exchange box, but nothing ever happens on the
Networker server. Other servers in the same group run fine. I've double
checked dns, and both machines can resolve each other correctly; there's
nothing in any of the logs to indicate what is causing this; I've stopped
the services on both machines, removed the contents of the nsr/tmp
directory, and restarted the services; and I've ran a nsrck -L6 to make
sure the indexes are OK (there were no errors found). None of these has
made any difference. The only thing I haven't been able to do is reboot
both servers one more time to see if that clears up the problem.

What I don't understand is why one "client" works, and the other one
doesn't. This one has me stumped.

The only things that have changed that I know of (I was out on vacation when
this started), was that the latest MS patches were installed on both
machines, but this was on Wednesday night. Both servers were restarted
after the patches were installed, and all backups ran OK the following
night, so I don't think it was the patches.

The Networker version in use up there is 7.1.1 Business edition, Windows
2000 Server with all service packs and hotfixes, and Exchange 5.5 with all
SP's and hotfixes.

I think I remember some other people on the list reporting the same issue,
but searching the list isn't finding what I'm looking for. If anyone has
any suggestions on how to fix this, I would appreciate any info you can give
me.

Thanks,
