Let me correct :

Adv-File Devices support multiple write and single read operations
simultaneously.
You cannot do two simultaneous reads

File Devices act as tape devices : read OR write.

AdvFiles allows read AND write but 1 read and multiple write:
This means that when you stage or clone, you cannot recover
When you clone, you cannot stage nor recover. ...
... but you can always take more than 1 backup a time.

was my 2 euro cents

adv-file devices support one write and one read simultaneously. You
cannot do two simultaneous reads. So in your situation the fact that you
are backing up to disk should not impact on your recovery, but the
staging operation will.

This limitation is documented. It is not a bug, just poor design, along
with other aspects of the adv_file concept.

I'm surprised that Legato Support have not been able to explain this
quickly and simply.
