Does the upgrade do anything specifically to the client indexes or media
indexes?  Would it be theoretically possible to take the client and
media index files, after the upgrade from v6.1.3 to v7.1.3, and use them
on a v6.1.3 installation?

I know that the nsr config files are not capable of this because of the
new directory structure for them, but how about the client and media
indexes?


I don't know for certain, but I have a vague notion that there is a media
db conversion.  I don't think there are any changes to the client indexes.
I don't really think it matters though.

All you need to go back to 6.1.3 and do a saveset recovery is the media
database (you don't need client indexes).  You can do a backup of your
backup server (make sure you get a bootstrap) and then put the backup
tape aside.  If you want to make your life really easy, you also run an
mminfo report that has information about tapes, dates, clients, etc. for
any clients that you need to do a saveset recover from.

From there, do your upgrade to 7.1.3.  If you ever need to go back to

6.1.3, you just:

- shut down networker
- mv /nsr/mm /nsr/mm-7.1.3
- mv /nsr/index /nsr/index-7.1.3
- mv /nsr/res /nsr/res-7.1.3
- uninstall NetWorker 7.1.3
- install NetWorker 6.1.3
- perform the first steps of a server disaster recovery (as documented in
  nsr_crash(1) and mmrecov(1)).

Once you have your media database back, you can perform your saveset
recovery.

Once you're done with the recovery, you revert to 7.1.3 by shutting
down 6.1.3, moving its relevant directories out of the way, moving the
7.1.3 directories back into place, and then installing the 7.1.3 binaries
and starting the server.
