In regard to: [Networker] Problem backing up Novell servers, Stan Horwitz...:

These Novell servers were mostly running the old NetWorker 4.2 or 4.21
client, but upgrading them to 4.22 did not resolve this issue. I am not
involved with managing any of these six Novell servers. I asked the two
people who do manage them to test reverse DNS lookups back to our
NetWorker server. The test failed. They can look up the FQDN for our
NetWorker and its one alias fine, but not the actual IP address or short
name with nslookup. This is consistent across all six Novell servers,
from what I can gather. All six, are spread across different subnets from
our NetWorker server.

What is the exact error message you get in your savegrp completion report?

Without seeing the error message I'm mostly guessing, but my guess is that
the problem has less to do with the reverse DNS issue on the clients
(though that should be fixed, and could be fixed on the clients by using
a SYS:\ETC\HOSTS file) than it has to do with the name and aliases
configured on the server.

I would look carefully at what aliases are set for each of the clients, and compare them to any of the names NetWorker reports in the error
messages from savegrp.

Oh, BTW, now that you're at v7.1.3 on your server, try do a recover of
any data on your NetWare clients. Try something that was on a full
backup.
