Adam,

If you are doing Fulls & Incrementals then note that if you delete a Full done
2 months ago and there are still incrementals done relative to that full you
will strand those incrementals and not be able to restore to that point in time
because those incrementals are relative to the 1st prior full for the same
saveset.
It's always best to let NetWorker manage when a saveset is to go recyclable.
Fulls should not be made recyclable manually unless you are certain that there
are no incrementals done relative to that Full that depend on it.

Normally Full savesets are set to recyclable if their retention period has
passed and there are no incrementals/differentials that depend on them.
Incrementals also don't go recyclable until all other incrementals that depend
on them are made recyclable.
Volumes in turn are not made recyclable until every single saveset on them has
gone recyclable.
If you jump in and manually set a saveset or tape to recyclable you may be
stranding other savesets that depend on them.
Differential savesets are a little different in that they only depend on Fulls

John

Subject: [Networker] Volume Clone question

I want to set up a group to have a clone that I offsite and store for a
year, however I need to recycle the original tapes for reuse within a
month. I know that when you set up the clone pool you have to click off
'store index entries', but if you recycle the original volumes before
the clone should expire, will the indexes need to be recovered in order
to restore off that data?

Pools: Monthly, Monthly Clone

Browse Policy: 1 Months

Retention Policy: 1 Year

Right before the next monthly backup I recycle(by a short shell script)
the volumes in the monthly pool, then the new clones are created and
offsited, etc. Am I doing this right, or will I run across problems
restoring?

Thanks,

Adam
