We're using all Fuji brand LTO1 and LTO2, Legato 6.1.3 though.  Except for
an occasional bad tape the media is acceptable.   I certainly hope 7.1 is
not to blame for your issues.

Storage Magazine had an interesting article on media quality (LTO; sadly
they did not follow it up with more media quality tests/articles):
