Hi Byron,

Please try with the mt command to see if the tapedrive is accessible.
steps to troubleshoot:
*) please load a tape into the drive
*) execute the mt command
     (ex. mt -f /dev/rmt/0cbn status, or mt -f \\.\Tape0 status ).  You
should see now the characteristics of the tape
*) unload the tape drive
*) execute the mt command again
   You should get the message that there is no tape loaded
