 Somen,

If you use the mail slot, you do and import and then either a inventory
on the needed slots or label on the slots with unlabeled tapes with
networker. If you choose to open the door and manually place tapes into
the slots then you do the above without the import command. The library
will automatically do an inventory, if you open it up to place tapes
into it. It will not do this if you use the mail port and networker to
do the import. It is faster to manual populate the Library if you have
more than a couple of tapes to change, than use a mail port to import or
export one tape at a time. So there are drawbacks to either method. If
to disable learning this will stop it from checking the label that is on
each column and slot, which is different from checking the label on each
tape in the slots.

Hi Bob,

If you disable that how will the library and legato server know what
tapes are currently in the library if the tape population is changing
daily in the library.

I am not sure if Legato can do an inventory of the library itself.

Thanks

Somen

Librado,

On my I 2000, you can log in as admin, go to setup-> Physical Library
and disable auto teach. This feature is only needed during initial setup
and if you move the device. Hope this helped.

Subject: [Networker] ADIC Scalar 100 config

Hello All,

We just installed our new ADIC Scalar 100 tape library with 2 LTO Gen-2
drives. It comes with the standard 4 standard columns with the a single
slot mailbox (somehow this is also a column).
Questions:

- can we disable some of the columns so that during tape library
initialization, it won't go through all the columns and slots which are
not really used?
- when I withdraw a single cartridge using the mailbox, it will do the
'teaching, scanning, learning and homing' process, is this normal on
this tape library? can we disable this feature?

thanks in advance,
