Thanks for your comments Hrvoje , does it mean that you can no restore it to
any other non NAS device ?

DRC is disaster recover center . When you have NAS in Production site and
you do not have NAS device in your disaster recovery center then potentially
you have problem because you can recover any data backup by NDMP in DRC
unless you have same type of NAS device .
Is there any workaround ?

Hi,

You were told well. They have different formats. I guess you are not
knowledgable about ndmp protocol, but try to remember following. There is
ndmp protocol, but implementations between vendors are different. This
leads to situations where sometimes X works for one vendor and it does not
for the other.

Backup application (no matter which one, Veritas, Legato, IBM, etc) is
using dnamp protocol to establish communication with ndmpd on filer side
and it acts as media manager only here. I didn't follow the thread from
start so I don't know what DRC is so I can't comment second part of your
email.

Cheers,

If you have NDMP and DSN clients using same tape library , Legato says
      technically it is possible but
      not recommended .

If you have N drives then you should allocate some drives to NDMP and
should
take DDS license for remaining drives only .

Another very important thing I leart today from Legato , you people must
      already know about this .

If you want to restore NDMP files then you need NAS device only .
That too you should have same type of NAS you can not restore Netapps NAS
data to EMC NAS or vice versa . Because NDMP format used by each NAS is
      different .

It seems this is true with Veritas Netbackup as well . Can somebody
confirm
that this is true regardless of Legato or Netbackup ?

If you take NAS in Prod site then you need NAS in DRC site as well ,
otherwise you can not restore data .

Is there any other workaround so that we can avoid purchasing NAS in DRC
?
