Sorry, I cant comment, I am not well versed in pre 6.x releases. This is
what you would do in version 6.x onwards.

What I do know is the specific command is the following (sorry earlier
seemed  to be over exited typing and I got the order wrong) -

nsrck -L7 clientname

Perhaps somebody else in the list can comment if this is different with
pre-6 releases ?

but i see no option "-L7" in my nsrck, nor in man nsrck, are you sure it
exists in release 5.5.1?

nsrck: file index for client scr already exists.
nsrck: Host -L7 is not a valid client.

mary2-root% nsrck -L6
usage: nsrck [ -qM ] [ -T tempdir ] [ -X [ -x percent ] | -C | -F | -m | -c
] [ clientname ... ]
