We've had an OEM'ed version (the Dell Powervault 136T with 5 LTO-1 tape
drive), for over a year now, and I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't had
any major problems. Legato recognized it right out of the box and I didn't
have to tweak it much. Every now and then things the backup server starts
behaving weirdly, but I think that's more of a Legato/Win2k issue.

If you manually remove tapes from the library, or eject them from the tape
drives, remember to do a reset of the autochanger. This will for Legato and
the library to synch up as far as status and inventory goes. If you don't
then things could get very bad, very quickly. It is kind of annoying that
legato doesn't pick up on those changes automatically when you do them, but
then, maybe the library isn't sending that info out either.

My biggest complaint with the Dell, and this may not be an issue with the
Adic, is that if you get the 12 port mailbox, then you can use it to either
insert tapes, or use it for slots (which means you have to open the door to
insert/remove tapes). You can't change modes without rebooting the library
either, so it's kind of annoying. The brochures, at least from Dell, didn't
mention this when they advertise up to 72 tape slots. With the mailbox, you
only get 60. It would be nice if you could use the mailbox as both as it
would minimize the risk of dust getting in the library.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Hello all,

We are replacing our STK 9714 (DLT 7000) tape library with an Adic
Scalar 100 (2 LTO Gen 2 drives).

Can you please send me your comments, griefs and other remarks
regarding this tape library.

Our Environment:

NetWorker for Unix-AIX
Unix-AIX v5.2
NetWorker v6.1.4

thanks in advance,
