On a side note you can bring networker down and edit the nsrjb.res file
manually and do a search for your previous scsi dev ID and replace it with
the new one. This has always worked for me.

Gary,

An input / output error is normally indicative of some sort of SCSI buss
problem. This could be on the library side OR the server side.

If rebooting your library before solved this it was probably as a result of
the SCSI buss reset. If your library tests fine (and if you beleive it) the
next place I would look is the actual scsi card on your server - perhaps you
have a replacement card that you can use. This would unfortunately mean you
would have to resetup your library (on 611 it means jbconfig as the scsi
paths will change).

If you have a spare set of scsi cables and terminators laying around that is
perhaps the easiest "non disruptive" component of your scsi infrastructure
to verify (before moving on to your scsi card).

Good luck !

Regards,
Riaan

Subject: [Networker] nsrjb: SYSTEM error: Input/output error (NW6.1, NT4

Hello. I have a several years old installation with Networker 6.11 on NT4
SP6a, with a dual AIT-1 30 tape Cybernetics-brand Treefrog jukebox. The
server is a dual P3 with hardware RAID 5 and a separate Adaptec 2940U2 SCSI
bus attached to the Treefrog.

Last weekend the nightly backup session failed with an error message
"nsrd: Jukebox Jukebox1 failed: Input/output error." Any attempt to mount a
tape to either drive fails with the same "Input/output error". I've
experienced this occaisionally in the past, and rebooting the tape library
has always solved it, but this time successive reboots still yields the same
error message.
The
unit powercycles fine and the the self-check it does runs successfully.
There is
no equivalent message in the Legato error messages book.

Could anyone hazard a guess as to what happened? Or have some diagnostics I
can try, hopefully remotely, as the tape library is in a lights-out
facility?
If this is a failure-mode of some part of the hardware, how can I narrow it
down? Thanks in advance. -Gary
