All,

Server: NW71 on Solaris 8
Client: NW71 on Win2k3 (Intel)

I'm confused from the documentation provided by Legato (Windows Admin
guide, and the release supplement guide as well) as to how VSS (Volume
Shadowcopy Service) is licensed, and by whom.

>From the Admin Guide:
"By default, NetWorker release 7.1 uses VSS technology to back up a client
that is also running release 7.1 and is licensed to use VSS."

>From the Release Supplement:
"NetWorker release 7.1 takes advantage of the Volume Shadow Copy Service
(VSS) technology that Microsoft incorporated into Windows Server 2003 (if
a VSS client license is present)."

My question is this: is the "VSS client license" they refer to a Legato
product, or a Microsoft product? (Our win2k3 servers run Enterprise
Edition, so I am making the assumption that a VSS client license is
included in this level of server license.)

Comments ?

Thx
-ty
