Hi Davina,

This is interesting & confusing.

A tape takes backup of a client with retention of 2 days. When the tape is
full, all save sets get recov by the last 2 days. However, the tape
expiration date visible under the volumes tab in the main GUI for a Windows
2000 NW 7.1 configuration is set to 05/14/2005. Therefore the tape does not
get expired. On this screen the tape mode changes to recyc but expiration
date is 05/14/2005.

We have studied this thouroughly by changing the retention policy of
networker server. The expiration date gets set as per the longest retention
period(either of the clients backed up on the tape or networker
server-whichever is longer). This is because networker server writes index &
bootstrap everytime a backup is taken.

Legato Support Center has suggested backing up indexes & bootstrap on a
different media pool.

Thanks & Regards,
