That was going to be my next question

1.  Check your host file so that it and the IP matches the hostname of the
machine
And
2.  Double check your /nsr/res/servers file to be sure you networker server
was listed correctly in there.

Hah, it was a wrong entry of the client's name in the client's hosts file.
Now it is doing its backup just fine. :-)
