But this seems unreasonable adding networker server to all the groups. I am
facing the same problem & know this workaround works but I feel there has to
be some standard way to get out of this.

You can do this for the first configuration but you cannot ask the customer
to do this everytime he creates a new group.

Infact, I have a tape with me on which I never took the backup of networker
server. It allways shows the appropriate expiration date. Today, I changed
the Browse & Retention policy of the networker server to month & year. Now
onwards whatever media I label & use gets one year expiration date. This is
true even if the browse & retention for networker server client is one day
now. However, for this old labelled media, the expiration date is still
correct even if I do not backup the networker server.

This is a very strange behaviour.
