It sounds like your barcode labels were printed with a checksum byte, but
your barcode reader isn't looking for a checksum and is returning the
entire string as the value of the barcode.

You might be able to enable checksums on your barcode reader, or you might
have to just get new labels printed without the checksum.

I would agree with that. I have the same on an ATL7100 library using
EDM. At some point in the sequence someone bought a batch of the wrong
type of labels, and these show up with an extra digit at the end. This
particular library should have "3 of 9" type labels, the correct labels
work fine.
