I haven't tried your particular trick but I'm pretty sure you'll be OK,
Networker seems pretty smart in this area.

Subject: [Networker] Backup Tape overwritten - use clone
Hello, small query regarding the use of cloned tapes.
I take a full backup on a friday night and clone these tapes. On tuesday
I take a level two backup (backing up everything from the last full on
friday)
Scenario:
My friday full volume is removed from the media database and the tape is
re-labelled! I need to recover data on wednesday morning, this requires
the level two backup tape and the last full backup tape. Luckily I have
a clone of the required tape that was re-labelled. When I initiate the
recovery will Legato be intelligent enough to use the clone tape and the
tuesday level 2 tape for the data recovery.
Regards, Mark
