We only have backup pools that specify how we are storing data based on
retention. Other than that it is a free for all. So we could have MSSQL
clients backing up to a retention pool called 5-week or a MSSQL client
backing up to a pool called 3-week. If I were to run my backups in a
traditional "IT" backup infrastructure then I would segment them out by the
data tye to separate pools. However you want to be sure that you can still
push your drives enough even with all of the pools you create for each type
of backup.

The only BSM we use is the Exchange module and we back it up to the same
pool as everything else. But we're only backing it up for disaster recovery
purposes so it only has a 5 week lifetime. If I were backing it up for
archival purposes I'd probably put it in a separate pool. Performance is
not an issue for us since the Exchange incremental typically takes 10-15
minutes and the full about 1.5 hours (including cloning).

I'm trying to get a feel for how others group their BSM backups.. Do you
have a separate pool for them, or do you let them run along with your file
backups? And if you do how has your performance been?
