This is one way of doing it, but there is no reason why you can't
migrate everything to the new server. Read the disaster recover guide,
because that is basically what you would be doing. In short you run
mmrecov to reover the media database and res files, then nsrck -L7 to
recover the indices. It's quick and painless, but do read up on it first
so that you will understand what is happening.

Is there some reason why you can't take the tapes to the new server? If
there is then stick to the other suggestion, but that means keeping the
old server and tape hardware around until all backups have expired.

If you can't migrate the tapes, wich keep the data of the clients, too, there is no sense 
to "migrate" the clients index, just create them on the new server.

from one server to a totally different one? Both servers are running the same 
version of Legato...
