AFAIK:

LTO: +- 30 Years, (250,000 hours)
SDLT: 30 years,

This off course depends on the conditions when you use it (dust,
temperature, moisture etc) and when / where you store it.

As most drive manufacturers (normally) support backwards read compatability
of 2 versions prior and they usually have a 5 year roadmap, I have seen that
the actual issue is with the technology, let 's say 15 years down the line.

So if you keep them in a "optimum" condition, with say a drive + SCSI card +
drivers + software that they were backed up on ... 30 years ?

HTH,

Riaan

Hi Everyone,
Just as a quick question, does anyone know what the shelf life of an
LTO generation 1 tape is? I am developing procedures for tape retention and
need to know this figure. A link to some kind of documentation on this would
be useful. I know this isn't directly Networker related, but it's crucial to
my networker installation. Thanks in advance!
