"type 8" means Medium Changer, so there's your jukebox.
"type 3" is a "Processor Device", which may not respond to much.

I recommend you get the sg3_utils tarball and build it, and use the
sg_inquire in there to try device inquiry.  It may well give you a
clue about what the problem could be.
