That's weird. The figure I got from ADIC was 10 MB/s, and that's
definitely the figure I see on the HP web site with respect to their
LTO-2 drives.

I don't honestly know which figure to believe about the IBM drives.

The drives and media will both fail prematurely if consistently fed less
than it can handle. I have, and will continue to see this problem.

This problem is more pronounced with the DLT family of drives, since
Quantum has decided not to use data rate matching, trying to fix the
problem with buffering. They leave it up to the customer not to
over-kill with tape. Hence, the wide range of DLT drives available.

Does anyone on the list have any experience of under feeding LTO2 tape
drives? I've seen figures from IBM that say an LTO2 tape drive will slow
from 35 MB/s to 17.5 MB/s using Digital Speed Matching. What happens if
you feed it with significantly less data than that?

I'd be interested to hear about any reliability problems with drives or
tapes that they think might have been caused by backhitch operations. (I
think that's IBM's term for shoe shinning.)
