Matt,
I spoke with Adaptec, and what they tell me is that their cards do NOT
work in Sparc Solaris environments, Solaris Intel (x86) only. So that
explains why our Sun Ultra 10 could not see the devices. Adaptec did
tell me, though, that Sun does make OEM cards (Adaptec), and the 39160
is included, so if we bought an OEM card, it ought to work, but I could
find nothing on Sun's site about this.
Spefically, the problem we're seeing on the Linux box (Redhat 7.3) is a
SCSI reset ... aic7xxx abort messages. What happens is that the picker
suddenly dissapears. If you attemt to run the NetWorker inquire program,
it will fail to report the picker. This occurs randomly at least every
couple of days. This never happens on the ATL P1000 SDLT tape library
(also hooked to same Linux box), and it uses an Adaptec card also (39160
-- same one). Instead, the problem only occurs on the Storagetek L80
library. We thought we'd move the Storagetek library to a Sun and see if
we could eliminate the problem, but looks like we can't even use the
card there.
