Well, savegrp just starts save cmds for each entry in saveset list of
each client configured in the group. Before nsr.res reorganization
and split in a directory structure, a resource item (ex a client
definition)
could not be greater than 1024. But you are not limited regarding how
many times you create a same client with a different saveset list. You
will not
consume extra licenses doing so.

You will have a client-based parallelism resource. Savegroup
have also same kind of parallelism to avoid/permit a client/group to be
more
aggressive or not regarding amount of parallel backup sessions.

Save are directories, filesystems or volume oriented. It also saves
files.
Increasing the amount of saveset will shorter your backup (depending of
infrastructure). Lan based backup should not win a lot of in perf,
limitation
coming from LAN. Local backups or SAN ones should gain in performance.
Filling all of your fs sequentially in a single cmd will extend your
backup window.

Regarding limitation in params the shell can give to the save command,
I would say it will be more depending of the command string length than
amount
of params. Look at /usr/include/sys/syslimits.h :

#define MAX_CANON 255 /* max bytes in terminal canonical input
line */
#define MAX_INPUT       512     /* max bytes in terminal input */
#define NAME_MAX        255     /* max number of bytes in a file name */
#define NGROUPS_MAX     32      /* max number of supplemental group id's
*/

Hope that helps,

Thierry
