I had the same problem a few weeks ago and didn't get much in the way of
a resolution. The problem is at least partially related to resource
starvation on the server. When I restarted my Exchange 2k server, the
backup ALMOST finished, and then quickly went the way of the dodo trying
to complete.

If you get any hard definitive answers, please pass them my way!

Thanks!

Hey there,

We recently started using Exchange 2K for our mailserver
and the backups of the Mail boxes are having a problem.
The Public Folders and Informations Stores seem to be fine
but we're getting the following error for the MB in the
daemon.log and the completion reports:

MSEXCH:MB nsrxchsv_ese.exe Version: 3.1.0.74 Supporting Exchange 2000
MSEXCH:MB System Version: 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 3
MSEXCH:MB ESEBCLI2.DLL Version: 6.0.6396.1 Service Pack 4
MSEXCH:MB Performing an Exchange save operation; save level is Full
(Legato
Backup Level: full).
MSEXCH:MB mapi(157): MAPIInitialize() = 0x80040108: unknown error
-2147221240 (0x80040108)
G:\rt_2002_1Q\nsr\db_apps\aime\svmain.c(1109): begin_mb_backup() =
0x80040108

Anyone got any ideas about this "unknown error" ?

The backup server is running Solaris 8, Networker 6.1.1.
The Exchange server is W2k Advanced server SP3, Exchange 2K SP3
The savesets for the Exchange backup are:

MSEXCH:MB
MSEXCH:PF
MSEXCH:

Thanks alot,
Duncan
