IMHO, AIT tape is more of a consumer grade backup media.  I have found
that LTO and the DLT/SDLT family to be more geared toward the Data
Center end of things.  They physical construction of the media cartridge
is certainly more rugged than the AIT tapes.

Also, If memory serves...  AIT tape is helical scan media, so if you
can't get your tape drives streaming, this media is probably more for
you.  If you have a fast network backbone try LTO or SDLT.
