when you ping or traceroute to and from client and server do you use the
ip addr or host name. you must be able to resolve and use the host name
for this to work.
we backup our remote sites [on diffrent subnets, no firewalls but
broadcasts disabled], so it can be made to work. the only execption we
have found is on really slow links [64k leased lines] that all rpc
functions time out so client connects but will not backup.
we have a wan wide dns infrastrute but for this we prefer to use the
hosts files on both server and client eg
server host file has entries like:
123.123.123.123 <client name> <client name><domainname.com>
and client has entries like
123.123.123.123 <networker server name> <networker server
name><domainname.com> nsrhost
we have been told in the past that is better to use notepad or similar
to modify hosts files on netware servers because appernetly edit.nlm
does not put tabs in that the networker client can understand.
we have found that getting the netware server to resolve to ipaddr of a
host name is the crux of this [assuming all routing etc is ok first of
course which applies to you as you say you can ping/traceroute both
ways], and netware sometimes can be a bit funny about this.
it also maybe worth running a rpc probe from the netware clients to
networker server using the networker server's netbios name to test
conectivitly as well.
