Thanks all for the help. In the end we discovered that one of our team had
a stash in his drawer so the panic went away. In the meantime though, we
downloaded and purchased the shareware. The labels worked fine when printed
on bog-standard 80 gsm paper using a colour LaserJet, even with the word
DEMO across them. We would have used some better paper if we had used them
for real.

The colour thing is a bit weird. It does one colour for the first 3
characters, and a different colour for the other 3. Even when we changed
the settings so that each digit had a different colour, it didn't work, and
still came out the same.

Handy to know about this software for a future emergency.
