Sure.
Backup Server is NT4.0SP6a Networker v. 6.1.3
NT/2000 Clients all running Networker v. 6.1.3
Have 3 Exchange systems (2 are clustered Active/Active)
-clustered boxes running Win2000 Adv. Server SP3 Exchange 2000, Networker
6.1.3, BSM Exchange 3.0.11
-non-clustered box running Win2000 Adv. Server SP3 Exchange 2000, Networker
6.1.3, BSM Exchange 3.0.11
We have 10 SQL boxes that we dump the database over night so we can do a cold
backup of it. The rest of the clients are file and app servers.
Compaq TL895 5-Drive DLT 40/80 attached to Backup server
Compaq MSL5026 2-Drive SDLT 110/220 attached to Win2000 Client that is used as
the Remote Storage Node to backup our 4 SAN clients over the GIG-pipe.
Schedule is Daily Incrementals and Weekly Fulls are Cloned and taken offsite
for 30days (month ends held for a year). The backup window is from 10PM to 6AM
CST.
Total amount of data backed up is 900GB over the weekend and add another 1.4TB
when we do our major SAN client 2x a month. (I'm lobbying for a MSL5052 or at
the least another 5026 because that window is TIGHT!!!
Also, we do pretty much exactly as Ty Young has done with the NICs, directives
and client versions.
Hope that helps..
Regards,
Phil M.

Can you outline your configuration (i.e. SCSI/SAN?, Media Manager?, NW
version and platform, etc.)
Cheers,
Jim

I back up 40 NT/2000 clients and 10 Novell clients. I never have any
issues with the Windows clients unless someone makes changes to the
client systems and doesn't tell me. The Novell clients on the other
hand have always been a nightmare. Thankfully, we are slowly getting
rid of our Novell boxes. Our windows environment has been quite clean
and is prone to be error free (knock on wood). I have no complaints
towards these clients since they have been quite reliable for us.

Phil M.

Presently, we backup about ~40 Solaris boxes and very reliably. It has
been dictated from higher up that we look at backing up NT/W2k servers.

What type of problems have people been having with NT/W2k server backups
to a Solaris backup server? I also heard that there was in the past a
problem with backing up the Windows registry. Is this still a problem?
Thanks!
