Another way round it is to have two groups and two schedules and have
each one skip alternate days. That way a hung group will have an extra
24 hours to hit the timeout.

A drastic solution, yes but, the alternative is finding out what is
making it hang. Any chance of splitting into two groups or narrowing
down the list of suspects?

Hey Bob,

Under normal circumstances that timeout works great. Problem is that
every once in a while client just hangs and that timeout never
occurs(mine is currently set to 60 because of large filesystems).

Thanks,

Joel

What about the group inactivity timeout? Or have you got it set to 0?

Setting it to 0 will effectively disable it, try setting at 30 (the
default) and see how it goes. You can always double it if you have a
large file system (sometimes it takes Networker a while to walk large
file systems).

Bob

Subject: [Networker] Savegroup timeout

Hey All,

I want to setup something that causes my savegroups to stop after 23
hours and 50 minutes. I run into times when a single client hangs up
for a long time which causes the entire group not to start the next
night. From within Networker the only way I know to do this is by using
savepnpc's timeout option. From my experience savepnpc is kind of fluky
so I'd rather not use it if possible. I suppose I can have a cron job
that runs 23hours and 50minutes after each groups starts to check it and
stop it if necessary, but that is kind of messy.

Anybody else trying to do something like this?

Thanks,

Joel
