Hi Teresa,

if you do client side compression,
the data arrives the storage node
already in (slightly) compressed form.

If you do cloning without PRE-compressed data,
the one drive decompresses the data,
the whole thing goes true all the adapters,
buses, cpu, etc. (uncompressed) and finaly the other
drive compresses again.

This has been a big issue for us
with older hardware
(at times, Legato 4.x was state of the art)
but will still be of interest with more
powerfull hardware.

In the end, you have to move lesser data
for cloning.
